Deliberate intentions for a new life

DELIBERATE: My Word for 2017

creating deliberate healing mindset Jan 01, 2017

I watched the documentary Minimalism last night.

So much food for thought…we spend so much money on “stuff”- things we don’t really need or want (at least not for very long).  And then the clutter makes us crazy so eventually we throw it out!

Wouldn’t it be simpler to just not buy the "stuff" in the first place?  I can’t see myself living with 4 sticks of furniture and nothing on the wall, but I think the message is that we should all be mindful and deliberate with our choices.  It’s ok to surround yourself with things you LOVE but be deliberate about it.

Maybe that could be my word for the year.

DELIBERATE.

What does it mean to be deliberate?

According to Merriam-Webster, “deliberate” means “characterized by or resulting from careful and thorough consideration” and “characterized by awareness of the consequences”

To me, that means thinking about your choices before you make them and only doing the things you really want to do or mean to do.

It means being proactive instead of reactive.

It means setting goals and making a plan to achieve them.

It means checking-in regularly to ask yourself what progress you’re making, what needs to be tweaked and what goals need to be rethought.

It means making choices everyday with those very goals in mind.

It means saying no to the things that bring you down or don’t bring out the best in you.  Or the things that don’t bring you closer to your goals.

It means old habits - things we do because it’s what we’ve always done - need to be set aside to make way for deliberate, mindful choices based on what we want our lives to look like from this point forward.

Life on purpose, if you will.

That’s the plan! xo
